This is the former way of doing it, as recently remoteproc is used. For uio to work on newer Beaglebone releases, the dts board file needs to be edited to enable uio, and disable remoteproc, see this instruction. I think remoteproc can also be used though, and may be an beaglebone:green:usr0 none beaglebone:green:usr1 none.
